In the year 1784, Giacomo or Jacques, Casanova was in his sixtieth year, and a very tired man. This is most likely the finest example of this set for sale. The covers are beautifully patterned paper over boards and all are mint. All volumes are quarter bound in red leather with gilt lettering to the spine. The two slipcases are ver fine with a small repaired chip on one slip case at it's opening. The only minor flaw to some of the volumes is where the glue on the paste downs reacted with the paper used in the making paste down. 1 has several small closed tears, which considering a 75 year old set of books is quite remarkable. All original glassine jackets are fine + with very minimal wearjacket on vol.

All eight volumes are in very fine+ condition unmarked and unread. This set if #511 of an edition of 1500 sets. The memoirs and notes were translated by Arthur Machen with an introduction by Havelock Ellis. Published in Scotland in 1940 the memoirs of Casa Nova are fully annotated, for the first time (1940) in English.
